This institution which has been renamed as LAL BAHADUR SHASTRI SMARAK JAVM SR. SEC. SCHOOL to spread the ideals of simplicity and high thinking, was initially started as Primary school named Janta Adarsh Vidya Mandir in 1966 by Janta Adarsh Shiksha Sansthan, a registered educational society founded under the presidentship of Shri I. K. Gujral and supported by a group of selfless dedicated friends and admirers of Late Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri to materialize his dream of an institution which could impart quality education on public school pattern yet retaining its simplicity to the talented children of economically weaker section at nominal cost under the patronage and active support of members of Late Shri Shastriji’s family specially his widow Smt. Lalita Shastri and his son late Shri Hari Kishan Shastri. Eversince its start the school has been visited by many prominent dignitaries of eminence as Sh. P.A. Sangama, Sh. Romesh Bhandari, Sh. R . K. Dhawan, Sh. H. K. L. Bhagat, Late Sh. Hari Kishan Shastri, Sh. Mahendra Singh Sathi, Late Sh. Aziz Imam, Late Sh. Amar Nath Chawla and Smt. Tajdar Babbar from time to time.
The school was upgraded to Middle school in 1975, to Secondary in 1985 and finally to Sr. Secondary in 1987. The school is recognised by Directorate of Education, Govt. of NCT Delhi and affiliated to CBSE Delhi. It has its own building constructed on spacious plot of land allotted by Ministry of Works and Housing, Govt. of India in 1975. The foundation stone was laid by Shri Narain Dutt Tiwari, the then Minister of Industries in 1982 and the building was inaugurated by H.E. Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma on Jan. 11th, 1992. India’s first life size statue of our beloved Late Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri was installed in the school premises and unveiled by Smt. Sheela Kaul, the then Minister of Urban Development, Govt. of India.
The school is now known for its academic excellence and immaculate discipline in the Capital. It enjoys an enviable position among the schools of the Capital. Behind the success story of the school are the untiring, selfless, painstaking efforts and endeavor of our Manager Shri Gopal Prasad Shastri, coupled with active support of Shri Jagdeesh Kodesia and Late Ch. Dilip Singh Ex. M.P. under the able guidance of the dedicated manager, the school has been showing excellent results.
The school received no financial assistance from any government agency or local body for its expansion and maintenance, yet it charges only moderate fees and is being run as charitable non-profit making institution providing modern educational facilities to its students. The financial help extended by the present chairman of the school’s managing committee, Sh. Jai Prakash Aggarwal for the construction of the building has gone a long way to establish the school as one of the best in the area.
A regular full time doctor is available for the health check up of the staff & students. Anti-Hepatitis ‘B’ has been given to the students of the school.
Some other agencies and individuals have also came forward and sponsored awards and scholarships to deserving students of school who excel in academics, sports and other activities.
Honoring Freedom Fighters is an important Annual Feature of the school which has no parallel. It provides an opportunity to the students to listen to their experiences and gaining first hand knowledge of the freedom struggle. In this context the school has honored Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, Sh. Narain Dutt Tiwari, Late Cdr. Ram Krisha, Smt. Subhadra Joshi, Late Sh. Sheel Bhadra Yajee, Late Sh. N.G. Ranga, Sh. Shashi Bhushan, Late Sh. Radha Raman, Sh. T.N. Kundra, Capt. Shobha Ram, Late Sh. Amar Nath Chawla and Late Sh. Jagdeesh Kodesia so far.
A very few schools in the Capital are providing Internet facilities to their students. Our school is one of them. We have latest Computer Laboratories for the students with latest facilities i.e. learning subjects through Computer.
